A painter born in China in 1920, Zao Wou-Ki moved to Paris in 1948, where he established himself as one of the leading figures of the new Paris School. A renowned figure in lyrical abstraction, his international reputation continued to grow for over 60 years.
Since 1949, alongside painting, Zao Wou-Ki has been practicing printmaking. He experimented and quickly mastered various techniques: lithography, which he discovered in the Desjobert studio, drypoint, etching on zinc, executing the plates himself in the Lacourière and Frélaut studio.
After the donation of an ink, following a first exhibition dedicated to him in 2008, Ink, water, air, color, Chinese inks and watercolors 1954-200 , then the important donation of Madame Françoise Marquet-Zao from the personal collection of the painter Zao Wou-Ki, composed of 90 works by his artist friends, Alechinsky, Hartung, Mathieu, Michaux, Mitchell, Soulages, Viera da Silva… presented in 2016, The man of both banks, Zao Wou-Ki collector , the artist's widow is today offering an exceptional retrospective collection of 353 prints and 27 bibliophile books produced by Zao Wou-Ki.
