Born in 1971 in Quyang, in the Chinese province of Hebei, which encloses Beijing, Yang Ermin is known as one of the major figures in the revival of wash painting, to which he introduced color, traditional Chinese wash painting being characterized by the unique use of black ink. Thanks to the combined influence of Chinese and Western painting (the artist notably observed the works of Monet, Cézanne, Matisse and those of the Nabis), Yang Ermin creates an original and poetic body of work.
