"I find myself outside with my lanterns, searching for myself." Emily Dickinson

The career of Vivian Maier (New York, 1926 – Chicago, 2009) is atypical, yet it is that of one of the greatest photographers of the 20th century. It was at the heart of American society, in New York from 1951 and then in Chicago from 1956, that this governess meticulously observed this urban fabric which already reflected the great social and political changes of its history. It was the time of the American dream and overexposed modernity, the other side of which constitutes the very essence of Vivian Maier's work. The exhibition gives the public access for the first time to the photographer's unpublished archives, discovered in 2007: vintage photographs that Vivian Maier was able to take, never-before-seen super 8 films, audio recordings... The exhibition thus allows us to grasp the full scope of the work of this great artist and to place her work in the history of photography.
