Cycle "The Eye of a Collector"/3
Vallotton in black and white and in color. A private collection was created several years ago thanks to the friendship and loyalty of a great patron and friend of the Bonnard Museum from the very beginning, who sadly passed away in 2020 and whose children are continuing his dream today. This exhibition is the third installment in the "The Eye of a Collector" cycle, which particularly appreciated the work of Félix Vallotton, bringing together around 120 prints and fifteen paintings.
The exhibition and the accompanying catalogue are structured around several axes of reflection which highlight the full richness of the artist's graphic work with a collection of canvases from the Nabian period to maturity, highlighting the strangeness of reality, an essential component of his works: Technical virtuosity / The press as a counter-power / Paris, city of spectacle / Intimacies, sensualities, rivalries / Society in question / The pen and the brush, Vallotton and literature / Vallotton and music / Composed landscapes.
The essays by Gilles Genty, Katia Poletti and Véronique Serrano shed valuable light on this little-known artist whose singularity, like his offbeat modernity, resonates intensely in today's world.
