Far from existing for its own sake, "the history of photography" is not solely the history of images and the cameras used. Photographic perspectives are thus manifestations of each era, based on socially inscribed devices, such that photographers are not solely responsible for their meanings. Through a presentation of socio-cultural processes, problematic fields, frameworks of experience, and discursive constructions, photographic perspectives are considered as socially significant perspectives. The examination of some of the perspectives that have marked the history of photography allows us to affirm that it is a plural history in which photographic perspectives are situated in relation to one another.
