Co-published with Editions Déméter (Tunis), this richly illustrated book traces the history of an extraordinarily rich Mediterranean craft industry, along with the journey of a remarkable family. The "sons of Jacob Chemla" were a unique example of a Jewish company engaged in the production of artistic ceramics, an activity regularly practiced exclusively by Muslims since the Middle Ages. The Chemla revived it and permanently inscribed it in Tunisian art and landscape. From the 1860s to the end of the 20th century, the book presents the adventure of this unique company, along with the memory of a plural Tunisia that the country's new Constitution attempts, with great difficulty and effort, to revive.

New, expanded edition.
