The challenges of this publication are to highlight the profound unity that connects the diverse peoples of Côte d'Ivoire and to show how their varied cultures find their sources in the very heart of the country and beyond its borders. The refinement of the Akan goldsmiths has left its mark on wooden sculpture and given it an unequaled refinement. This book presents an initiatory journey, summarizing the great cultural moments of Côte d'Ivoire and facilitating the understanding of such a multifaceted cultural world: geographical framework, population, presentation of historical data (maps, migrations), the most significant sculpted signs of the respective cultures, situated in an aesthetic perspective of the history of art and the techniques used (sculpture, goldsmithing, painting, weights for weighing gold, weaving...).
