The Gateway of Ramesses IX, in the Temple of Amun at Karnak.

This book is the publication of a little-known major work, part of the greatest temple in Egypt, built by one of the last kings of Egyptian empire. After a brief introduction, the scene is described, the inscriptions translated and the role of the gateway and its decoration discussed. The book cloncudes with drawings of the hieroglyphic texts and plates of the entire gateway, both photographic and line. As professor Kitchen says in his forework to this book, "In Egyptology, nothing is more urgent than he full and increased publication of the original monuments that are the indispensable raw material for our study and understanding of one of the world's very greatest civilizations."
