This publication is the first volume of the definitive reports of the excavations at Tell Amarna, which took place between 1991 and 1998. It is the result of a close and friendly collaboration between two teams: the archaeological mission of the University of Liège in Syria, led by O. Tunca, who was entrusted with the conduct of the excavations, and the team from the Universitat Autonoma de Barcelona, under the responsibility of M. Molist, who carried out the research relating to the Halaf period. W. Cruells kindly agreed to take charge of the scientific coordination of the research, and the publication would never have seen the light of day without his skills and boundless dedication.
