Continuing the decipherment work begun at the beginning of the 20th century, Jacob L. Dahl, Professor of Assyriology at the University of Oxford, offers researchers, students, and enthusiasts here a study of one hundred and twenty-one unpublished tablets and fragments preserved at the Louvre Museum, which houses the world's largest collection of Proto-Elamite texts. The edition of these tablets is preceded by a detailed introduction that traces the history of their discovery and publication and presents the principles of this writing as well as the difficulties posed by its decipherment. It is completed by an index of the Proto-Elamite signs used in these texts. This work marks the revival of the collection of Cuneiform Texts of the Louvre, created in 1910 by François Thureau-Dangin, the last volume of which was published in 1967.
