Classic bilingual collection. Probably the first dialogue in which Plutarch takes the central role, the Delays were both classified among the Ethica by the Ancients and considered one of the masterpieces of ancient religious thought by the Moderns: a sign of the richness of a text in which the Platonist and priest of Delphi updates the meditation on Justice of the Republic by placing it in the Hellenistic framework of divine Providence. Based on the refutation of Epicurean theses, he develops a much broader reflection in which reason and "faith", logos and mythos, plausible arguments and striking images, academic circumspection and confidence in the transcendent divinity embodied here by Apollo and his pure light, invisible even in myth. Even if he turns his thoughts towards this essential metaphysical beyond, the philosopher does not forget the duty to think and live here below.
