On the road to Cameroon's chiefdoms. From the visible to the invisible.

"On the Route of Cameroon's Chiefdoms. From the Visible to the Invisible" celebrates the art of the communities established on the high plateaus of the Grassfields, in western Cameroon. Monumental architecture, blacksmithing, beadwork, wood carving, textile production, traditional dances... Nearly 300 works, preciously guarded for centuries by traditional chiefs, custodians of tangible and intangible heritage, are displayed here in a unique perspective supported by the association La Route des Chefferies. This book, richly illustrated with documentary photographs, presents the objects within the chiefdoms themselves. Through the writings of Cameroonian heritage specialists, the stories of chiefs and queens, and the creations of artists, it bears witness to this living art, this evolving process between the sacred and the profane, drawing on the dynamism of tradition to project us into the future.
