Pierre Soulages, the master of "outrenoir", will be 100 years old on December 24, 2019. On this occasion, the Louvre Museum pays tribute to him with an exhibition in the prestigious Salon Carré. Given the singular longevity of his career, the idea was imposed to present to the public major works from the greatest French and foreign museums. The emblematic works are presented chronologically, beginning with some walnut stain paintings on paper and canvas from the 1940s, then important canvases from the following decades, but it will emphasize the "outrenoir" works often characterized by an enlargement of formats and the use of polyptychs. The tour ends with previously unseen works created by the artist to celebrate this exhibition-event placed under the high patronage of the President of the Republic.
