The Field Museum of Natural History, Chicago, has a large collection of reliefs and other objects dating from the Old Kingdom. These are little published and largely unknown to the Egyptological community. This volume examines the reliefs, false doors, lintels, and drums from seven tombs dating from the 4th to the 6th Dynasties, from the sites of Giza and Saqqara, and housed at the museum. Other objects from the same tombs, currently in other museums in the United States and Europe, are also collected in this volume. Taken as a whole, they reveal the socioeconomic status of their owners, who ranged from high-ranking officials to figures of lesser rank. They also shed light on aspects of their religious beliefs and moral principles. Finally, they attest to the active antiquities trade in Egypt during the late 19th century.
