This volume of Homages is intended as a "scientific-friendly" testimony: it brings together ten contributions, both scientific and literary, offered by the last colleagues, disciples and friends, among all those he met throughout his rich career, who accompanied Jean-Claude Grenier (1943-2016) until the end. First during his training, classical then Egyptological, at the University of Paris 4-Sorbonne and at the EPHE, then in Egypt itself, at the IFAO and the Egyptian Antiquities Service, but also at the Vatican, as a consultant to the Museo Gregoriano Egizio and, finally, in Montpellier where he became full professor of the chair of Egyptology at the Paul-Valéry University, in parallel with his position as director of studies at the EPHE.
These texts, some of which are very personal, reflect the different interests and research of Jean-Claude Grenier and thus navigate between the banks of the Nile and the banks of the Tiber, the coasts of the Red Sea and the Mediterranean shores. This Egyptian-Roman Sinfonietta, through the diversity of the texts gathered, also aims to echo the various facets of the erudition of this orator, whose teaching was often atypical and... passionate about music.
