Encouraged in the path of fashion design by Paul Poiret, the fashion designer Elsa Schiaparelli (1890-1937) became known in France and the United States from 1927 with her collections of sweaters with trompe-l'oeil patterns. She set up her fashion house on Place Vendôme in 1935 and frequented the artistic avant-garde, notably the Surrealists, with whom she collaborated closely until the closure of her house in 1953. This book is the catalog of the exhibition presented at the Musée des Arts Décoratifs in Paris from June 30, 2022 to January 23, 2023. It invites you to rediscover the essential figure of interwar fashion that was Elsa Schiaparelli. It highlights her position as a woman artist and her collaborations with Dali, Man Ray, Cocteau, Bérard and Leonor Fini (who designed the bottle for her famous perfume, "Shocking"). The major pieces from the collection of the Museum of Decorative Arts, clothing and accessories, are photographed by Valérie Belin, who was specially commissioned for this book.
