The fifth volume in the “Savoir & Faire” collection, this book is organized into three main chapters that cover the main areas of application of glass. It opens with the glass arts, a history that begins more than four thousand years before our era. After a summary of the technical and aesthetic evolution of the material from its origins to the beginnings of the industrialization of manufacturing processes, it deals, among other things, with the art of stained glass, crystal, mirror manufacturing, but also the place of glass in modern and contemporary art (Art Nouveau, Art Deco, Studio Glass, etc.) in response, sometimes, to the omnipresence of industrial glass that now surrounds us in our daily lives.
