"The variety of collections is infinite, and it is said that a collection paints a portrait of the person who created it." Christian Caujolle Samaritaines Since 2013, the renovation of the Samaritaine department store, a historic building in the heart of Paris, has been the scene of an exceptional and little-known artistic production. In parallel with the launch of the gigantic rehabilitation work of the existing building, Samaritaine called upon nearly 50 artists to document and produce works in what would once again become one of the symbols of Parisian architecture.
This in situ commission, carried out throughout the duration of the work, has resulted in the creation of a rich photographic collection of over 300 works, in a variety of forms and techniques. The images create a subtle link between the inspiration of the building's art nouveau and art deco curves and the different personalities of each of the participants. Each collection is unique. It reveals, implicitly, the character and intentions of its owner.
The Samaritaine collection is one of the major collections where big names in photography rub shoulders without neglecting young contemporary creation.
