A Lebanese poet who chose to write in French, Salah Stétié occupies a considerable place in contemporary poetry. At the crossroads of Arab and European cultures, which simultaneously nourished him, he is the author of an abundant and dense poetic oeuvre, to which are added numerous essays, translations of Arab poets, texts on art... In a perpetual quest for a space of encounter, of conciliation, in a plural Mediterranean, he is undoubtedly one of the most eminent representatives of these two shores of a world whose current events are constantly in motion. The exhibition dedicated to him offers an overview of his links with artists. Over the past thirty years, Salah Stétié has published nearly a hundred books produced in collaboration with numerous painters, including Alechinsky, Tapiès, Zao Wou-Ki, Kijno, Jan Voss and, most recently, Viallat and Woda. They are brought together here in their entirety - original editions, limited editions alongside manuscripts by the poet and numerous works by the seventy or so artists who collaborated on these publications. In a 352-page work, we will find all of his original editions, limited editions alongside the poet's manuscripts and numerous works... In parallel with the exhibition presented at the Paul Valéry Museum, an exhibition of the very recent Salah Stétié donation is organized in Paris by the National Library of France from March 5 to April 14, 2013. On this occasion, a collaboration between the Paul Valéry Museum and the National Library of France allows the two exhibitions to be presented in the same catalog SALAH STÉTIÉ AND THE PAINTERS.
