A new album in the Regards collection presents the photographic collection of the Jean-Louis Cohen collection, from the Robert Mallet-Stevens agency. These photographs are rare documents due to the disappearance of the architect's agency archives. This catalog echoes the exhibition Mallet-Stevens and his photographers, which will be held at the Villa Cavrois from May 29 to September 2. The portfolio will include the 50 photos selected for the exhibition (from the Jean-Louis Cohen collection, which includes approximately 225). The exhibition has been awarded the "European Year of Cultural Heritage 2018" label. This exhibition aims to showcase all the qualities, diversity, and chronological breadth of the Jean-Louis Cohen collection, a photographic collection from the Robert Mallet-Stevens agency. This collection reveals the full range of representations of architecture, from documentary photography to artistic photography, including the many prosaic missions that these photographs had to fulfill: press photographs intended for publications, construction site images, etc. In addition, the collection includes particularly rare images. Rarely shown and rarely published, they relate, for example, to the early career of Mallet-Stevens, who is only known through rare documents. The absence of an archive created by his agency explains the preciousness of these images. They represent architectures that have sometimes disappeared and of which they are the only traces. Some of them are not even located.
