2020: anniversary of the death of Raphael, Italian Renaissance painter and architect born in 1483 in Urbino and died in 1520 in Rome. Two exhibitions to remember: the first at the Musée Condé at the Domaine de Chantilly, which boasts three autograph paintings (the Three Graces, the Virgin of the House of Orléans and the Madonna of Loreto) as well as a large number of drawings by the Italian master and his circle, with the exhibition Raphael in Chantilly, the master and his students until August 30, 2020. The second in Rome, at the Quirina Stables until August 31, 2020, with more than 200 works by the artist from museums around the world. Stefano Zuffi, art historian and specialist in the Italian Renaissance, takes the reader on an astonishing journey through the life and work of Raphael, moving from one detail to another. The book is organized thematically and includes a biography and a list of works. Crowned “Prince of Painters” by Giorgio Vasari, Raphael (1483-1520) was one of the most popular artists of the Italian Renaissance. Famous for his harmonious and serene Madonnas as well as his work at the Vatican, he exerted enormous influence during his lifetime and after his death. Raphael was hired by Pope Julius II as chief architect, and his first commission in 1509 was to decorate the papal apartments. Today, these rooms attract visitors from around the world.
