The Perpignan period, where Raoul Dufy found refuge during the Second World War, is a decade in the artist's career that is still too little known. For the first time, the exhibition organized by the Musée d'Art Hyacinthe-Rigaud restores the full scope of this Roussillon production, always marked by the joy of painting. Bringing together a significant collection of the attractive paintings devoted by Dufy to his two successive studios, it also does justice to the many landscapes inspired by his stays in the surrounding area. Within Dufy's highly diverse production in Perpignan, the exhibition also chooses to focus on his moving reinterpretation of the Old Masters, his depictions of music, from which his art borrows many traits, as well as the floral theme that gives rise to superb watercolors. Dufy's specific activity in the field of decorative arts is finally highlighted by unpublished contributions on his production of tapestries and ceramics, also designed in Perpignan.
