While the study of ancient democracies has long been limited to that of Athens in the classical period, anyone studying the political history of Greek city-states now knows that the Hellenistic period also saw this regime flourish, particularly in the cities of Asia Minor. This work focuses on two regions of this space, Ionia and Caria, which offer a representative diversity of the different types of cities of the Hellenistic period. Based on epigraphic and archaeological documentation that has been significantly updated in recent decades, it raises the question of the existence of democratic urban planning. This spatial approach to democracies, linking the understanding of institutional functioning to the question of decision-making sites and political spaces in the city, also offers a reflection on what a democratic decision was and on the political ideology of the Hellenistic period, its mutations, its local variations, and its staging in cities.
