In the 1960s, Philippe R. Doumic took 15,000 photographs of actors, actresses, technicians, and directors for Unifrance to promote young French cinema. Many of these rising stars became stars (Catherine Deneuve, Jean-Paul Belmondo, Brigitte Bardot, etc.), and many of Philippe Doumic's images have since been seen around the world. But the photographer's name remains obscure.
This book aims to pay tribute to the man and his work through nearly 200 photographs of cinema personalities, which capture an era as much as their gazes of rare power. It also tells their story and that of a man who was too discreet, through the pen of a unique witness, his daughter Laurence Doumic-Roux.
