In the summer of 2020, the Musée Fabre will present, in the Cabrières-Sabatier d'Espeyran mansion, the exceptional loan from a Montpellier collector who has made the city's history the founding axis of his passion, thanks in particular to pieces of earthenware of exceptional quality. The exhibition, expanded to include other private and university collections, focuses on the discovery of pharmacy jars through their uses, in a Montpellier context particularly favorable to their development. What are the different uses of earthenware in Montpellier? Why is medicine a driving force for the creation of earthenware? What role do pharmacy jars play in the relationships between doctors and apothecaries, hospitals and hospices, medicine and charity? What were these pharmacy jars used for? Are there any remedies typically found in Montpellier? What were the contents of these pots and what were they made from? Is a particular shape or style of pot synonymous with a specific use? ... Echoing this heritage presentation, the intervention of Jeanne Susplugas, a contemporary artist from Montpellier whose renowned work poetically articulates art and medical science, should enrich the visit. Thus, Jeanne Susplugas questions, through her observations of ordinary behaviors, the place of the remedy in its relationship to oneself and to others, in creations whose elegance, not devoid of humor, allows the seriousness of the questions they pose. This exhibition is part of a partnership between the University of Montpellier 1 and the Fabre Museum, as part of the celebrations of the 8th centenary of the Faculty of Medicine.
