“The Egyptians, like all other ancient peoples, sought to explain the world and the mysterious forces they saw at work by resorting to the supernatural. Egyptian gods and goddesses are innumerable, each city having its principal deity who reigned supreme over the surrounding land. Nevertheless, a few enjoyed great prestige that radiated throughout the country. Osiris, particularly well represented in the Egyptian collection of the Granet Museum, is one of them. The first king of Egypt according to tradition, Osiris was assassinated by his brother Seth and then resurrected thanks to the magic of his sister and wife Isis, the Great Magician who managed to conceive from him, posthumously, Horus the Child… The exhibition Pharaoh, Osiris and the Mummy. Ancient Egypt in Aix-en-Provence, held at the Granet Museum, presents to the public the 153 Egyptian works in its collection, which have not been exhibited for a quarter of a century, despite the exceptional nature of many of them. Presented according to the three civilizational themes that form the title, they are enhanced by numerous objects from the Louvre and other museums in France and Europe.
