This book includes two hundred and eighty maxims, proverbs and other quotations from good Latin authors given in the "pink pages" of old Larousse dictionaries. But instead of the translations hackneyed by usage, the authors propose "craductions." These transpose more the sounds than the meanings of Latin formulas. Far from being reserved for Latinists, the exercise requires a kind of ignorance of meaning: the "craducteur" observes the letter and listens to the sound of the language; from beneath the edifying verbal usage, he brings out statements that are always surprising, often comical, and willingly obscene. These are ordered according to the headings of the best magazines (family, love, work, health, travel, gastronomy, etc.). An appendix gives the official translations commonly proposed elsewhere for each of the "craduit" statements.
