This book is dedicated to the exceptional deposit of nearly 370 metal objects, mostly bronze, discovered in 1969 in the northeast sector of the basilica of the forum of ancient Bagacum. The discovery of the Treasure of Bronzes of Bavay accelerated the creation of the municipal museum in 1976 and remains today the centerpiece of the collections of the Ancient Forum of Bavay, archaeological museum of the Department of the North. As part of the renewal of the museographic presentation of this collection, the museum called upon a multidisciplinary team of specialists to conduct a new in-depth examination of the objects. Some of the pieces of the Treasure were subjected to advanced techniques of scientific analysis by the Center for Research and Restoration of the Museums of France. It is the result of these exchanges, of the crossed perspectives of specialists with different and complementary expertise that the Ancient Forum of Bavay invites you to discover in this catalog, which accompanies a temporary exhibition dedicated to the investigative methods implemented.
