If we remember on April 15, 2019, what went up in smoke from Notre-Dame de Paris: its spire and most of the enrichments made by Viollet-Le-Duc during twenty years of work from 1845 to 1865. This book brings together the photographs taken during the last quarter of the 19th century by Médéric Mieusement (1840-1905). They now constitute a documentary treasure trove preserved at the Heritage and Photography Media Library, which is widely used by today's restorers.
A study by Isabelle Gui completes a photographic album of the cathedral, produced from original prints preserved by the Heritage and Photography Media Library.
This book of photographs aims to celebrate the work of Médéric Mieusement, THE photographer of cathedrals in the 19th century. Armed with his 30 x 40 cm view camera and glass plates, he traveled across France for the former Directorate of Religious Affairs.
in order to draw up an inventory of these monuments which form the core of our heritage. With skill he will know how to find the best viewpoints going from inviting himself to the neighbors' window, to positioning himself on a roof to building imposing scaffolding.
