Slavic mythology is probably the least known of all ancient European mythologies.
The pagan Slavs did not write, and Christian authors most often refrained from preserving their past.
However, much work has been carried out in recent decades, which has allowed us to learn more about the religion and mythology of these populations, who once occupied up to half of the continent. Archaeological excavations have led to the discovery of sanctuaries. Ancient texts (chronicles and lives of saints) have been reexamined. For the first time since the mid-20th century , this work offers a synthesis of knowledge on the subject in French.
