Indeed, Muma the Catalan, born in 1957 in Barcelona, borrows and diverts a lot but makes no secret of it. Friedrich, Caravaggio, Böcklin, just like Klee or Ben are found in his landscapes, annexed silhouettes, fragile homages in Chinese shadows. At first glance discreet presences, a painting within a painting, they lead us to question the status of the work, in line with the concerns born in the Renaissance with Alberti, the notion of verisimilitude and the idea of the "window-painting". Thus, the surfaces of Muma's works weave multiple subjects of reflection, the details sometimes ricocheting from one to the other in unexpected ways. They are nonetheless surprisingly transparent and remarkably visual.
