The Celtic numismatic collection of the La Cour d'Or Museum - Metz Eurometropolis is mainly made up of two large ancient collections acquired at the end of the 19th century. This third volume of the Mémoires des réserve is devoted to that of Abbot Merciol, whose coins come from his surveys carried out on the archaeological site of Côte Saint-Jean in Moyenvic (Moselle). Due to the loss of information suffered over the decades, it was necessary to carry out an inventory of this collection, the examples of which constitute the precious testimony of an occupation during the La Tène period on this site of mediomatric height. After an inventory of the collection, followed by a review of the examples preserved at the museum, the work presents a numismatic analysis of Côte Saint-Jean. It develops in particular a typological study of the potin with the boar-ensign which represents more than three quarters of the collection. This Gallic coin, with its many variations, is present in thousands of copies in northern Gaul and constitutes the bulk of the monetary circulation within the city of Mediomatrici. More than a simple numismatic analysis, this new report on the gossip with the boar-ensign highlights a specificity of our territory.
