From the 1880s onwards, the Mediterranean seduced artists: abandoning Paris or the North, they gathered along the coast, from Collioure to Saint-Tropez. It was then that they developed a new conception of light and color. These artists maintained links with the Mediterranean either through their origins or through their stays in the South. This digital and immersive exhibition seeks to show how their artistic personalities were revealed through contact with these maritime landscapes and how pictorial modernity was invented. In seven sequences reproduced in this book, the reader is carried from one artistic movement to another: from Impressionism with Monet and Renoir, to Pointillism with Signac and Cross, via Fauvism with Camoin, Derain, Vlaminck, Marquet… without forgetting Matisse. Bilingual version French/English
