The French excavations of Medamoud took place between 1924 and 1939 under the direction of F. Bisson de la Roque (1924-1932) and Cl. Robichon (1933-1939). They unearthed numerous monuments dating from the 11th Dynasty to the Byzantine period. All of this documentation constitutes a rich but heterogeneous corpus, the context of whose discovery had to be restored, especially since the excavations have been unevenly published. With this in mind, it was necessary, first of all, to inventory the remains in order to specify their dating, their interpretation, and the way in which they were excavated at the beginning of the 20th century . However, the analysis of the exploration of a site, while documenting the archaeological discoveries made, provides just as much information on the context of the time in which they took place, at the intellectual, technical, and political levels. From this follows the second objective of the work, Médamoud offering a case study to understand the way in which an archaeological mission was organized, both from a practical and administrative point of view, at the beginning of the 20th century. This work is therefore organized in two parts, first presenting a history of the exploration of the site, then an inventory of the structures discovered.
