A major artist of 19th century illustration and painting, Mathurin Méheut (1882-1958) was prolific, particularly in the fields of art, ceramics, prints and decoration.
From his studies of the sea to his sketches on the front during WWI, from ceramics to drawings on the spot, the artist never stopped drawing plants, the marine world, landscapes and then declining them into decorations, until becoming Official Painter of the Navy in 1921.
His 5,000 works are now in the greatest museums in France, including the new Mathurin Méheut Museum (reopened in June 2022) in Lamballe (22), his hometown in Brittany. This elegant little monograph, a lovely gift book on creative paper, succinctly presents Mathurin Méheut and reproduces nearly 36 of his most representative works of creative genius.
