Wandering through an imaginary city, Metropolia invites the reader on a dreamlike journey punctuated by enigmatic encounters. The urban space is grasped in fragments, guessed through the silhouettes we encounter there. Mists, exploded grains, sometimes saturated lights, shades of gray, monochrome colors playing with cold blues or warm oranges, in Bogren's work the visual experience becomes palpable. For the first time, he uses color photographs to punctuate the B&W: The use of color was a way for me to rebel against myself, as the photographer explains in the interview of the book, to see if I could do something totally new. "With black and white, I was starting to know a little too much what I was doing, whereas color was like a foreign language that I slowly learned. But, truth be told, my color images are very monochromatic."
