In 1995, Dora Vallier, whose L'Echoppe had already published several titles, prepared a new work on Mark Rothko, based on two texts she had written on the occasion of the artist's two exhibitions in Paris, in 1962 and 1972. This file was almost complete but the author hoped to find some more information that was missing, especially on the little-known exhibition of December 1962.
At the time, the archives of the Musée d'art moderne de la Ville de Paris seemed nonexistent or inaccessible. Then Dora Vallier fell ill and died in 1997. We recently found this file in our boxes and were fortunately able, thanks to various new sources, to complete it. The notes we have added are marked as "editor's note".
