"Croesus, the Pactolus... ancient Lydia has become proverbial. And the study of this region has therefore traditionally focused on two points: research on the origins of currency and the Lydo-Persian period on the one hand, and the city of Sardis on the other. This work then proposes to study it from a numismatic corpus, with the aim of establishing the history of Lydia through the different imperial experiences of the Hellenistic and Roman periods, questioning in passing the processes of Hellenization and Romanization of an eastern region with a prestigious past. Intended for historians as well as numismatists, researchers as well as collectors, students and enlightened amateurs, this research, richly illustrated and based on the study of more than 8000 Hellenistic and provincial coins, offers a journey of more than four centuries in this region with a prestigious past, too often remained in the shadow of Croesus."
