Dancer and choreographer Loïe Fuller (1862-1928) revolutionized the performing arts at the end of the 19th century with her avant-garde research into light, color, and movement. More than her name, it is the unreal image of a silhouette enveloped in swirling veils that has left its mark on memories. In her famous, often imitated shows, she evoked, through inventiveness and technical mastery, the lily, the orchid, the butterfly, etc. Initiating a new aesthetic, Loïe Fuller aroused the admiration of literary and artistic circles, who saw in her the embodiment of the myth of the feminine ideal. His imagination drawn from the repertoire of nature, the undulating gestures of his serpentine dance, his taste for sought-after colored effects and dreamlike metamorphoses inspired the creators of Art Nouveau to create some of their most original creations.
