This book presents the works of eleven artists from China and Taiwan, created between the 1960s and today. Thanks to fruitful exchanges with Western art, the age-old tradition of Chinese landscape painting ( shanshui ) has been profoundly renewed. These painters immerse us in the soul of nature, a source of beauty and spirituality, and in the relationship they maintain with it through a visual language of their own, by resorting to new techniques or by transforming the traditional uses of ink and paper. Merging Chinese philosophy and aesthetic thought, which celebrate "the contemplation of the world beyond appearances," with Western abstraction, they invite us on a spiritual journey where man and nature enter into communion.
