Born between Jerusalem and Acre during the 12th century, the first military orders all came from an environment deeply influenced by the city. The warrior brotherhoods that emerged in the context of the Christianization of the Baltic and the Iberian Reconquista also had their origins in the defense of a castle or territory linked to an urban center. The military orders therefore accompanied the great urbanization movement of the central Middle Ages, not only in the context of the holy war, but also through their spiritual approach, their social integration, or their economic choices. Based on fairly broad assessments or monographic insights based on a combined approach of history and archaeology, this work aims to examine the different modalities of the integration of warrior brothers into the city.
