True to the spirit of the Rencontres, the twenty-five articles in this volume contribute to our knowledge of sculpture between the late Hellenistic period and the imperial period across a very wide area – from Asia Minor to Spain and from North Africa to Gaul. Sixteen contributions explore different aspects of honorary statuary, a genre closely linked to the political functioning of the Empire and its constituent communities. In the second part of the book, nine contributions introduce recently discovered sculptures or propose a new interpretation of known works. They deal with funerary and architectural reliefs and ideal divine statuary.
