Communal latrines are one of the symbols of the ancient city. For the first time, all the toilets of an Eastern Mediterranean city, Delos, in the Cyclades, are taken into account. A multidisciplinary team studied these essential spaces for almost a decade. They were able to precisely reconstruct their architecture, but also part of the population's consumption, their health status, and their environment. A different vision of the city emerges, a city of filth, excrement, and parasites, a city in which hygiene and sanitation were a matter for private individuals and not still public authorities.
