The fifth title in the collection dedicated to the revolutionary fund of the Carnavalet Museum, this work presents all the Historical Engravings of the main events since the opening of the Estates General of 1789 by Jean-François Janinet (1752-1814), one of the finest practitioners of color engraving of his time. Janinet recounts, through striking images and historical texts, the first twenty-two months of the Revolution, from the opening of the Estates General on May 5, 1789, to the little-known but symbolic massacre of M. de Mauduit, on March 5, 1791, in Port-au-Prince, Santo Domingo. Philippe de Carbonnières, director of the collection, here in collaboration with Daniel Jouteux, offers an in-depth study of this precious series.
