A site of the French Institute of Oriental Archaeology since 1901, the Baouît monastic complex has yielded some of the richest examples of Coptic art and architecture, notably transcribed in 1911 in MIFAO 13, Excavations at Baouît I. The sequel to this work was never published. The batch of archives presented here nevertheless includes a short introduction by Émile Chassinat (1868-1948) and most of the plates he had already modeled. It testifies to the author's desire to deliver to the scholarly world the entirety of his work at Baouît. Publishing this sequel after more than a century in the MIFAO collection is a tribute to the work of Émile Chassinat. We meet the scholar, the director of the IFAO, the archaeologist in charge of the site, the epigraphist, the photographer and the printer, among other qualities of this rigorous author. The finished volume comes out at a time when excavations resumed by the Louvre Museum and the IFAO have explored the church sector. It prefigures a monograph on the so-called north church and the study of the large church D, the excavation of which continues to this day.
