From 1921 to 1923, luxury was exhibited in Paris in an unprecedented form at the Salon du goût français: backlit autochromes, like the "stained glass windows of a cathedral", promoted the art industries, from fashion to automobiles, from goldsmithing to decorative arts.

Among this exceptional collection, preserved at the Musée des Arts et Métiers, more than eight hundred autochromes are devoted to fashion. These color photographs of models previously known in black and white or through stylized illustrations renew the reading.

Beyond the silhouette, color asserts itself, in a subtle palette and a delicate rendering of materials that only the autochrome process is capable of rendering. Reproduced for the first time and alongside clothing, accessories, and documents from the Palais Galliera collections, these autochromes bring the colors of fashion back to life, a century apart.
