Between 1955 and 1956, surrealist Benjamin Péret traveled across Brazil three times, seeking out the marvelous, which he glimpsed in primitive and popular arts. He photographed numerous works, often singular and striking, for a book that would never see the light of day. Rediscovered through a fortunate coincidence, these photographs are brought together here for the first time. Prepared by Jérôme Duwa and Leonor Lourenço de Abreu, this edition accompanies these images with several documents that shed light on them, including Péret's texts on the subject.
