Alexander the Great profoundly changed the history of the kingdom of Macedonia and the Aegean Greek world. These changes were such that he inaugurated a new period for historians: the Hellenistic era. But his legacy long tended to overshadow that of his Antigonid successors in the Aegean world. Having difficulty taking possession of his kingdom, constantly fighting to maintain his authority in his sphere of influence, the dynasty is best known for its “cursed kings,” suffering from a black legend inherited from ancient authors (Demetrius with Plutarch, Philip V with Polybius, Perseus with Livy). Through the study of coins, this work offers, through a few selected pieces, a fresh look at the dynasty in its entirety, and outlines the main lines of its relations with its neighbors in the Aegean-Balkan world.
