In a city of knowledge and medicine, The Test of Bodies explores a poetics of the human figure. The body is political, social, gendered, fantasized, celebrated, subjugated. It is the reflection of our fears, our aspirations, our time. How can we represent the human today? Some fifty works created between 1977 and 2020 examine a human figure inseparable from the social, political and cultural traumas that are ours. This richly illustrated catalog brings together previously unpublished texts: art critic and curator Marion Zilio, author Amélie Lucas-Gary, and authors Julie Ackermann, Marie Applagnat, Angela Blanc, Caroline Chabrand, Jean-Baptiste Delorme, Anna Kerekes, Marilou Thiébault, and Justine Vic have each participated in the meticulous examination of the representation of the human figure. Two interviews conducted by the exhibition curator Vincent Honoré with Patrizia Sandretto Re Rebaudengo and the artist Michele Rizzo complete the book.
