During the winter period 2020-2021, the International Perfume Museum is organizing an exhibition dedicated to the illustrator Leonetto Cappiello, who distinguished himself brilliantly during the early days of advertising posters. The Italian, Leonetto Cappiello, moved to Paris in 1898 where he began his career as a cartoonist for numerous newspapers, notably La Revue blanche. From 1900, he specialized in posters. Initially, he collaborated exclusively with the Vercasson printing house, then, from the 1920s, obtained an exclusive contract with the famous publisher Devambez. His posters toured the world: Cachou Lajaunie, Papier à cigarettes Job, Dubonnet... Perfumery and beauty occupied a very important place in Leonetto Cappiello's career. He glorified the female figure with his own unique style. 4711, Luzy, Patou, Olivert-Legrain are all perfume and cosmetic houses for which he offers unique compositions. Leonetto Cappiello spent his last days in Grasse, the cradle of perfumery, in the Saint-Claude district. The exhibition will give pride of place to the private collection of the artist's heirs. It is an opportunity for the International Perfume Museum to present to the public its rich collection of studies and posters, which are only very rarely shown to the public for conservation reasons.
